What is it?

The Key is a secure and encrypted register for children and young people aged 0-19 years with disabilities or special educational needs.

What’s it for?

The Key will improve access and take up of services, and identify gaps in provision. The information you provide is important as it will be used to assist the local authority in the planning, monitoring and development of services for  disabled children and their families in Wiltshire.

Why should I register?

Wiltshire Council will be able to keep you informed of services and activities relevant for your child and relating to services for disabled and young people in Wiltshire. We can send this information out by your preferred choice of communication, either post or email.

Your information is valuable to us and without it we will not be as informed as we could be about the needs of disabled children in the county.

During your child’s development we will be able to keep you informed at key times, for example during the transition stages from early years to school and from school years on to adult services. We will also be able to keep you informed of activities and services that are available in your area.

How do I know if I should register my child?

If your child has learning or physical disabilities, sensory or communication impairment, chronic illness or a complex medical condition, an emotional or behavioural difficulty, or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), you might like to consider registering your child.

What happens to the information?

The information you submit will be held until the child turns 19 and then it will be archived. The information is kept secure and is encrypted; at any time you can ask to have the details removed. It is not passed on to anyone else.

The Key discount scheme

If you are registered on The Key, you are eligible to receive the Wiltshire Passport Card. The Wiltshire Passport will enable you to receive small discounts or additional services from businesses and organisations that are signed up to the scheme.

A list of all participating places is available on Wiltshire Council's website and will also be sent out to all who receive the card.
